Meta Plans Layoffs Affecting 8000 Jobs
Meta is preparing for another major round of job cuts, with about 8,000 roles, roughly 10% of its global workforce, expected to be affected in the first phase beginning in May 2026. The move comes as the company reorganises around artificial intelligence and broader efficiency goals, despite remaining financially strong.
Meta Layoffs 2026 Plan
The first wave of layoffs is expected to begin on May 20, with additional cuts possible later in 2026. Reports indicate that the later phase has not been fully finalised and may depend on how Meta’s AI strategy and internal restructuring evolve in the coming months.
8000 Jobs at Risk at Meta
The planned reduction would affect around 8,000 employees based on Meta’s workforce of nearly 79,000 at the end of 2025. That would make this one of the company’s biggest restructuring rounds since the earlier “year of efficiency” layoffs, when Meta cut tens of thousands of jobs across multiple teams.
AI Spending Drives Meta Restructuring
The latest cuts are tied to Meta’s heavy push into artificial intelligence. The company is investing aggressively in AI infrastructure and has also reorganised parts of the business around new teams and operating priorities. Management appears to be focusing more on efficiency and redeploying resources toward AI-led growth areas.
