Mallikarjun Kharge Targets BJP Over Inflation Jibe
The Congress on Saturday sharpened its attack on the Centre over rising prices, accusing the BJP of focusing on political defections while ordinary households struggle with the cost of essential goods.
Congress attacks BJP over inflation
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that families were facing pressure from rising prices and shrinking savings. In a post on X, he said household budgets were being hit by unaffordability, inequality, youth anger and weakening economic confidence.
Kharge claimed the BJP was “busy shopping” from other parties at a time when the common person was finding it difficult to afford basic necessities.
Mallikarjun Kharge targets Modi government
The Congress chief accused the Narendra Modi government of economic mismanagement and said people were paying the price through higher living costs. He linked the issue to food inflation, medical expenses, the rupee’s pressure and concerns over jobs.
Official data for May 2026 showed retail inflation at 3.93%, while food inflation stood at 4.78%. The figures indicated a rise from April, when retail inflation was 3.48% and food inflation was 4.20%.
Household savings and price rise concerns
The Congress said rising prices were weakening household savings and affecting daily expenses. The party also claimed that foreign investors were becoming cautious and young people were facing growing frustration over employment opportunities.
The remarks come as the Opposition continues to target the government on inflation, unemployment and economic management. The BJP has not immediately responded to Kharge’s latest comments.
