Kejriwal Calls Government’s E20 Claims White Lies

Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal visited a petrol pump and vehicle service station in Delhi on Saturday to examine motorists’ concerns about E20 petrol. He accused the central government of misleading consumers about the effects of the ethanol-blended fuel.

Kejriwal Visits Delhi Petrol Pump Over E20

Kejriwal interacted with vehicle owners, petrol-pump customers and service-station workers during the visit. He also examined vehicles and collected feedback about mileage and maintenance issues reportedly experienced after the nationwide introduction of E20 petrol.

The former Delhi chief minister claimed that the government’s assurances about the fuel were “white lies.” He alleged that motorists had reported reduced fuel efficiency and vehicle malfunctions linked to the higher ethanol blend.

However, the experiences collected during the visit do not independently establish that E20 caused every reported mechanical problem.

Government Rejects E20 Engine Damage Claims

The Centre has rejected claims that E20 petrol causes widespread engine damage. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said properly serviced vehicles were not experiencing difficulties because of the fuel.

The government maintains that E20 was introduced after testing by vehicle manufacturers and technical institutions. It says the programme reduces crude-oil imports, supports farmers and lowers certain vehicle emissions.

Automakers have acknowledged that some older vehicles may experience a limited reduction in mileage, although they have rejected claims of widespread engine damage.

Kejriwal Seeks Answers From Automakers

Kejriwal has written to 29 automobile manufacturers seeking written clarification about E20 compatibility, particularly for vehicles manufactured before 2023.

He has asked companies to explain whether older vehicles can safely operate on E20 and whether customers would receive compensation for fuel-efficiency losses or component damage.

Kejriwal has also demanded that motorists be offered alternatives such as E10 petrol instead of being required to purchase E20 exclusively.
