Kamala Harris Concedes Election, Promises to Fight On for Justice
In a heartfelt concession speech at Howard University, her alma mater, US Vice President Kamala Harris acknowledged her defeat in the presidential election to Donald Trump.
Greeted with chants of “Kamala, Kamala!” from her supporters, Harris expressed her acceptance of the results but vowed to keep fighting for the values that fueled her campaign.
Harris Acknowledges Loss, Looks to Future
US President-elect Donald Trump claimed victory with 295 electoral college votes, including wins in key swing states like Michigan and Alaska. Addressing her supporters, Harris said, “While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign.” She committed to championing women’s rights, addressing gun violence, and advocating for dignity and justice for all Americans.
Peaceful Transition and Continued Advocacy
Harris also confirmed that she had called President-elect Trump to congratulate him and assured a peaceful transition of power. “The light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting,” she told the crowd.
The event drew notable figures, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and staff from President Joe Biden’s White House. Her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, joined her, as thousands of supporters filled the venue, energized by anthems like Beyoncé’s “Run the World (Girls)” and Tye Tribbett’s “We Gon’ Be Alright.”
Harris’s campaign faced significant challenges amid concerns over the economy and immigration, areas where Trump managed to gain support. Despite her loss, she assured her supporters that the fight for justice, equality, and progress would continue.
