Justice Varma Inquiry Report to Reach Lok Sabha
The three-member inquiry committee report examining allegations against former Allahabad High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma is set to be tabled in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, formally bringing the controversial cash-at-home case before Parliament.

The parliamentary agenda provides for the presentation of Volumes I and II of the inquiry report in Hindi and English, along with oral and documentary evidence recorded during the proceedings.
The report was prepared under the Judges (Inquiry) Act, 1968. The committee submitted its findings to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on May 18, 2026, after completing its investigation into the allegations against Justice Varma.
Cash-at-Home Case Triggered Inquiry
The controversy began after a fire at Justice Varma’s official residence in New Delhi in March 2025. During firefighting operations, a large quantity of alleged unaccounted cash was discovered in a storeroom at the premises.
Justice Varma consistently denied wrongdoing. He subsequently resigned as a judge in April 2026 while the statutory inquiry process was underway.
Three-Member Panel Probed Allegations
The inquiry committee was originally constituted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in August 2025.
The panel was headed by Supreme Court Justice Aravind Kumar and included Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and senior advocate B.V. Acharya.
Despite Justice Varma’s resignation, the committee completed its proceedings and submitted its report. Its tabling places the findings and supporting evidence formally before Parliament for the first time.
