JSW Group to Invest ₹15,000 Crore in Lithium-Ion Battery Plant in Nagpur
The Maharashtra government has offered 450 acres of land in Nagpur’s additional Butibori industrial estate to the JSW Group for its ambitious lithium-ion battery manufacturing project.
With an initial investment of ₹15,000 crore, this project is a cornerstone of Maharashtra’s industrial growth strategy and a significant step toward India’s green energy transition.
Investment Boost for Nagpur
The state government has sweetened the deal with incentives amounting to 110% of the project investment through state GST refunds. This move underscores Maharashtra’s commitment to attracting large-scale industrial projects to drive economic growth and development in regions like Vidarbha, where Nagpur is located.
JSW’s battery plant, part of its broader push into advanced manufacturing, will cater to a wide range of applications, including electric vehicles (EVs) and consumer electronics. In subsequent phases, the facility is expected to expand its production capabilities, creating additional opportunities for the region’s workforce and boosting industrial output.
Aligning with India’s Green Energy Goals
The establishment of the lithium-ion battery plant aligns with India’s push toward renewable energy and electric mobility. As the country advances its plans to adopt EVs and achieve renewable energy targets, the facility in Nagpur will play a pivotal role in meeting the growing demand for energy storage solutions.
