Joe Root’s 99 Levels ODI Series for England
Joe Root produced a composed unbeaten 99 as England defeated India by four wickets in the second ODI at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The result levelled the three-match series at 1-1 and set up a deciding contest at Lord’s.
Joe Root Guides England Chase
Chasing a target of 234, England lost early wickets and came under pressure against India’s bowling attack. Root held the innings together with a patient and controlled knock, finishing unbeaten on 99 from 133 deliveries.
He built important partnerships through the middle and lower order, ensuring England remained ahead of the required run rate. The hosts eventually completed the chase with 35 balls remaining.
Root narrowly missed out on a century but was named Player of the Match for guiding England through a difficult phase and securing a series-levelling victory.
India Batting Collapse Proves Costly
India had been in a strong position after half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. Kohli scored 65, while Iyer contributed 66 as the visitors reached 178 for three.
However, the innings changed quickly after the dismissal of the two set batters. India lost their final seven wickets for only 55 runs and were bowled out for 233.
England’s fast bowlers led the recovery, with Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson taking three wickets each.
Lord’s ODI Decider Awaits
The victory gives England momentum ahead of the third and final ODI at Lord’s. India will need to address their late batting collapse, while England will look to build on Root’s form.
With the series level at 1-1, the final match will decide the winner.
