Jaiswal Dismisses Selection Criticism: “No Confusion” in Team

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has strongly defended the team’s selection for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, dismissing all outside criticism with a sharp statement: “No, there is no confusion.” Amid debates over the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav from the playing XI, Jaiswal made it clear that the Indian camp is aligned and fully confident in its strategy.

No Confusion In Team Strategy

Addressing the press after Day 1, Jaiswal firmly stated that the team had clarity about the game plan and each player knew their roles. The statement came in response to questions about the resting of key players, particularly Bumrah, and whether the team combination lacked balance. Jaiswal reiterated that decisions were based on conditions and long-term planning.

Backing Captain Gill

Jaiswal also praised Shubman Gill’s leadership and performance. The stand-in skipper remained unbeaten on 114 at stumps on Day 1, guiding India to a strong 310/5. Jaiswal, who himself scored a quickfire 87, credited Gill for creating a calm atmosphere in the dressing room and being “very clear in his head” about what needed to be done.

Changes With A Purpose

India made a few notable changes in the lineup. Jasprit Bumrah was rested as part of workload management, while youngsters like Akash Deep and Nitish Reddy were handed opportunities. Washington Sundar was brought in to bolster the lower middle order. According to Jaiswal, all players were informed well in advance and were “very confident what we are going to do.”
