Jaishankar Greets Iran FM At BRICS Meet

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar welcomed Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi on Thursday, as the gathering took place amid rising tensions in West Asia and growing concerns over energy security and maritime trade routes.

Jaishankar Meets Abbas Araghchi In Delhi

Jaishankar greeted Araghchi at Bharat Mandapam, where India is hosting the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting. The Iranian minister arrived in New Delhi for an official visit linked to the multilateral gathering.

The meeting drew attention because of Iran’s central role in the ongoing West Asia crisis and India’s close interest in regional stability, crude oil markets, and safe shipping movement through key global waterways.

BRICS Meeting Focuses On West Asia Tensions

The BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting is expected to cover global governance, economic cooperation, regional conflicts, and the impact of geopolitical instability on developing economies.

West Asia remains a key concern for India because any escalation can affect oil prices, trade flows, shipping insurance costs, and the safety of Indian nationals in the region. Iran’s presence at the meeting adds diplomatic weight to discussions on regional de-escalation and security.

India Highlights Maritime Security Concerns

Jaishankar underlined the importance of safe and unimpeded maritime flows, a major issue for India as global trade routes face pressure from regional instability.

India has consistently called for dialogue, restraint, and protection of commercial shipping. The BRICS platform is being watched closely to see whether member countries can build common ground on global conflicts despite differing strategic positions.
