Israel Eyes Iran’s Military, Energy Sites for Retaliation – Report
U.S. officials believe that Israel is preparing to retaliate against Iran by focusing on military and energy infrastructure targets, according to a report by NBC.
The potential Israeli response comes in the wake of Iran’s missile attack on October 1, launched in response to Israel’s military actions in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as the elimination of key leaders from Hezbollah and Hamas.
Israel Prepares to Target Military, Energy Sites
While there has been widespread speculation about Israel’s response, U.S. officials indicate that the Jewish state may avoid targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities or conducting high-profile assassinations. Instead, Israeli forces are reportedly narrowing their focus on critical military and energy infrastructure sites, though no final decisions have been made. The timing of Israel’s counterattack could align with the Yom Kippur holiday, but specifics remain uncertain.
Hezbollah Escalates Strikes Amid Ongoing Conflict
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has been intensifying over the past year, with the militant group launching numerous rocket strikes on northern Israel since the onset of the Gaza war. Israeli forces have continued to dismantle Hezbollah’s infrastructure in southern Lebanon, with the Israeli Air Force (IAF) hitting approximately 200 Hezbollah targets over the past day, including rocket launchers and anti-tank missile positions.
Israel Intercepts Missile Launches from Lebanon
In addition to air strikes, Israel successfully intercepted five missile launches from Lebanon. The Israeli military also reported several injuries among its personnel, with one reservist and an officer severely wounded in separate incidents during combat in southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah announced a rocket strike on the Tirat HaCarmel transport base in southern Haifa, further escalating tensions. Israeli forces also captured a Hezbollah militant and discovered an underground tunnel network used for storing weapons and supplies.
