Iran Says US Must Decide Whether War Will End
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran does not want the war with the United States to continue and that Washington must decide whether it is prepared to reach an agreement. His remarks came after a defiant UN General Assembly address in which he rejected US pressure while keeping the door open to diplomacy.
Pezeshkian Says Iran Does Not Want War to Continue
Asked whether the conflict could end before the end of 2026, Pezeshkian said Iran wanted disputes resolved through dialogue rather than continued military action.
He accused Israel of helping trigger the conflict and said Tehran remained prepared to negotiate with the Trump administration within the framework of international law.
Pezeshkian, however, insisted that Iran would not negotiate under military threats or accept what it views as forced surrender.
Iran Signals Readiness for US Agreement
Iranian and American officials have resumed indirect negotiations in New York through mediators, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi exchanging messages with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
No breakthrough has yet been announced, but Iran has presented proposals covering an end to hostilities, sanctions relief and the possible reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Major disagreements remain over Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security and the conditions required for a wider settlement.
Trump Maintains Pressure While Talks Continue
President Donald Trump has said an agreement with Iran remains possible but has also warned of further military action if diplomacy fails.
The US has sought restrictions on Iran’s nuclear capabilities while Tehran maintains that it does not seek nuclear weapons and has a right to peaceful nuclear technology.
The renewed diplomatic engagement comes amid international efforts to prevent further escalation across West Asia.
