Iran Says 11 Killed in Fresh US Strikes
Iran says 11 people have been killed in a new wave of US strikes on its territory, including seven deaths in the southwestern province of Khuzestan and four fatalities from an earlier attack in southern Iran. The casualty figures come from Iranian authorities and have not been independently verified.
Iran Says US Strikes Killed Seven in Khuzestan
Iranian officials said US missile strikes hit three locations in Khuzestan province overnight, killing seven people and injuring eight others.
The latest attack formed part of a broader US military operation targeting Iranian military infrastructure, including air-defence systems, radar installations, maritime assets, communications facilities and capabilities linked to mine-laying.
Washington says the strikes were aimed at reducing threats to US forces and commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
Four Killed in Earlier Strike on Wedding
Iranian emergency services separately said four people, including a child, were killed in a US strike in Sirik county in southern Iran.
More than 50 people were reported injured after the attack hit a location where a wedding was taking place.
US authorities have not confirmed Iran’s civilian casualty figures, while the circumstances surrounding the strike remain under investigation.
US-Iran Military Confrontation Escalates
The renewed strikes follow fresh clashes between US and Iranian forces after a period of reduced direct military confrontation.
Iran has retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting US military facilities in Jordan and elsewhere in the region. Tehran has claimed American casualties in some of those attacks, while US officials have disputed several of those claims.
The escalation has renewed concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz and potential disruption to global energy supplies.
