Iran Adviser Says War Could Outlast Trump
A senior adviser to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has said Tehran could deliberately prolong its conflict with the United States until President Donald Trump leaves office, arguing that a drawn-out war could impose costs on Washington and deter future attacks.
Iran Adviser Signals Prolonged US Conflict
Mohammad Reza Naghdi, a senior adviser to the IRGC commander-in-chief, said Iran’s objective was to establish sufficient deterrence to prevent its adversaries from attacking again.
Asked whether Tehran could attempt to outlast Trump’s presidency, Naghdi said prolonging the war and imposing attrition was one possible strategy.
He claimed Iran currently believes it has the upper hand in the conflict but has not yet achieved its broader strategic objectives.
Iran Claims Missile Production Can Sustain War
Naghdi also claimed Iran was producing more missiles than it was launching and could continue manufacturing weapons from multiple locations even if the conflict continued for years.
He warned that Iran could also target American economic interests globally if its conventional missile capabilities were depleted, although he did not identify specific targets or explain how such attacks would be carried out.
Iran US Peace Efforts Remain Stalled
The remarks come as efforts to restore an interim peace agreement between Iran and the United States remain stalled.
A June agreement aimed at ending military operations and creating a pathway towards a permanent settlement quickly unravelled, with both sides accusing the other of violating its commitments.
Major disagreements remain over Iran’s nuclear programme, US sanctions and access through the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns that the conflict could continue without an immediate diplomatic breakthrough.
