Saudi Arabia Strikes Houthi Sites in Yemen
The Saudi-led coalition has carried out airstrikes against Houthi military targets in Yemen’s western Hodeidah province following attacks on Saudi-linked commercial vessels in the Red Sea. The operation marks a renewed escalation between Riyadh and the Iran-aligned group.
Saudi Strikes Houthi Sites in Yemen
The coalition said the targeted military facilities were being used by the Houthis to threaten commercial shipping and maritime navigation in the Red Sea.
Houthi-controlled media reported that strikes hit telecommunications facilities in Hodeidah city and locations on Kamaran Island off Yemen’s western coast. It claimed that two people were injured, including a telecommunications worker and a woman on the island. The casualty claims were not independently verified.
Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Malki said the operation had achieved its objectives and was conducted in accordance with international humanitarian law.
Hodeidah Port Remains Operational
The coalition denied targeting Hodeidah port, stressing that Hodeidah, Ras Isa and Salif ports remained open to maritime traffic and continued receiving commercial vessels carrying fuel, food and other goods.
Hodeidah is a strategically important entry point for supplies into Houthi-controlled areas. Any disruption at the port could intensify Yemen’s humanitarian and economic crisis.
The coalition warned that it would continue taking measures to protect Saudi interests and commercial shipping if Houthi attacks persisted.
Red Sea Tanker Attacks Escalate
The strikes followed attacks on Saudi-linked vessels in the Red Sea. The Houthis claimed they targeted the tankers Encelia and Layla using missiles and drones after declaring a maritime blockade against Saudi shipping.
Saudi authorities confirmed an attack on one vessel and said its crew remained safe. A separate Saudi vessel, NCC Masa, sustained minor hull damage but continued its journey after inspections.
The escalating confrontation threatens shipping through the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a major trade route connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
