IPL Business Value Crosses $20 Billion
The Indian Premier League’s business value has crossed $20 billion in 2026, strengthening its position among the world’s most valuable sporting properties. A new valuation assessment estimates the ten-team cricket league at approximately $20.6 billion following another year of strong commercial growth.
IPL Business Value Reaches $20.6 Billion
The IPL’s overall business value increased by more than 11% during the year. Its standalone brand value, reflecting the commercial strength of the competition itself, rose by 10.3% to approximately $4.3 billion.
The tournament’s business model combines broadcasting revenue, sponsorship agreements, ticket sales, merchandise and franchise-related income. Its limited number of high-profile matches and large audiences have made it one of the most commercially valuable sports competitions on a per-match basis.
Franchise Deals Boost IPL Valuation
Major ownership transactions involving Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals contributed to the league’s rising valuation.
A consortium reportedly acquired the Bengaluru franchise in a transaction valued at approximately $1.78 billion, establishing a new benchmark for an IPL team. Rajasthan Royals later underwent an ownership transaction valued at around $1.65 billion.
The deals reflected growing interest from institutional investors and private capital in established cricket franchises, their loyal audiences and their long-term commercial potential.
RCB Leads IPL Franchise Brands
Royal Challengers Bengaluru retained its position as the IPL’s most valuable franchise brand, with an estimated value of $312 million.
The league’s growth has been supported by its large domestic audience, expanding digital reach, international player participation and increasing investor interest.
Launched in 2008, the IPL has developed from a domestic Twenty20 tournament into a major global sports, media and entertainment business.
