India’s SCO Envoy Hails Islamabad Visit
India’s National Coordinator for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Alok Dimri, has described his visit to Pakistan as a positive experience, saying he was “happy to be in Islamabad” and expressing interest in visiting other Pakistani cities, including Lahore.
Alok Dimri Says He Is Happy to Be in Islamabad
Dimri made the remarks during his visit to Islamabad for the three-day meeting of SCO national coordinators held from September 28 to 30 under Pakistan’s 2026-27 chairmanship of the organisation.
Speaking during the visit, he said the Indian delegation had received briefings and visited cultural sites in the Pakistani capital.
Dimri added that while he had only visited Islamabad during the trip, he would also like to see Lahore, Faisalabad and Sialkot.
India Highlights Trade and Connectivity at SCO Meet
During the meeting, Dimri said regional connectivity, transit and trade were among the important issues being discussed by SCO members.
He also highlighted the organisation’s role in bringing together countries across Eurasia and South Asia around economic cooperation, security and regional development.
SCO members have also agreed to participate in a civilisational dialogue proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on November 20.
India-Pakistan Engagement Continues Through SCO
Dimri’s visit marked a rare senior Indian official engagement in Pakistan amid continued tensions between the two countries.
India has maintained that bilateral engagement with Pakistan requires an environment free from terrorism, while continuing to participate in multilateral platforms such as the SCO.
The Islamabad meeting concluded with national coordinators meeting Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
