Indian Coast Guard Pilot’s Body Recovered After Month-Long Search

New Delhi: The Indian Coast Guard has confirmed the recovery of Commandant RK Rana’s mortal remains, the pilot in command of an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) that crashed off the Gujarat coast on September 2, 2024. His body was discovered on October 10 after an extensive month-long search and rescue (SAR) operation.

The tragic incident occurred during a night medical evacuation mission when the helicopter lost contact and went down in the sea. Since then, the Indian Coast Guard, with assistance from the Navy and other agencies, had been conducting continuous search efforts in a bid to locate Commandant Rana.

The ALH, known for its versatile roles in maritime operations, was on a mission to provide emergency medical aid when the accident took place.
