Indian Army Departs for Indonesia to Begin ‘Garud Shakti’ Joint Exercise
An Indian Army Special Forces contingent has departed for Jakarta, Indonesia, to participate in the 9th edition of Exercise Garud Shakti.
Comprising 25 personnel from The Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), the Indian unit will join 40 Indonesian Special Forces (Kopassus) personnel for the two-week exercise. Scheduled from November 1 to November 12, 2024, the exercise aims to deepen cooperation, mutual understanding, and interoperability between the special forces of both nations.
Focus on Special Operations and Tactical Skills
Exercise Garud Shakti 24 emphasizes enhancing operational coordination between the Indian and Indonesian armies. The exercise will include special operations planning and execution, sharing advanced tactical skills, and showcasing weaponry and equipment. Both contingents will engage in jungle warfare drills, tactical military exercises, and simulated strikes on terrorist camps. This joint training aims to strengthen the forces’ expertise in advanced special operations tactics, techniques, and procedures.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Security Cooperation
The exercise provides a unique opportunity for both nations to share best practices, foster military camaraderie, and gain cultural insights. Through Garud Shakti, India and Indonesia aim to build on shared security objectives and reinforce bilateral ties.
