Indian Airlines Suspend Saudi Flights Until Oct 17

Indian airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express and Akasa Air, have cancelled flights to several Saudi Arabian cities until October 17, 2026, following escalating security concerns in the Middle East. The announcement on October 13 comes after a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh’s international airport.

IndiGo and Air India Cancel Saudi Arabia Flights

IndiGo confirmed that flights to and from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah would remain cancelled until October 17 because of the deteriorating regional security situation.

Air India separately suspended services connecting Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah, stating that it was continuously assessing developments before resuming operations.

Air India Express also cancelled flights serving these three destinations, while Akasa Air announced temporary suspensions affecting its Saudi Arabian network.

The airlines have advised passengers to verify their flight status before travelling to airports.

Riyadh Airport Closure Follows Houthi Attacks

Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has been closed following attacks attributed to Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for missile attacks targeting Saudi aviation infrastructure amid the broader regional conflict.

Saudi aviation authorities extended the airport closure until October 17 to allow security assessments and operational preparations.

The disruption has affected numerous international airlines, leading to widespread cancellations and changes to flight schedules across the region.

Airlines Offer Refunds and Free Rescheduling

Air India Express announced that affected passengers could choose complimentary rescheduling or a full refund for cancelled bookings. Air India and other carriers have also introduced passenger assistance arrangements.

Travellers have been advised to monitor airline notifications and contact customer support for updated departure schedules and booking alternatives.

Flight operations remain subject to security assessments, with further changes possible depending on developments in Saudi Arabia.
