CJP Leaders Jailed After Jantar Mantar Protest

Delhi Police have placed Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde under preventive arrest following their alleged unauthorised entry into Jantar Mantar during protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Two of the leaders were subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

CJP Leaders Arrested Over Jantar Mantar Protest

The three leaders were detained on October 13 after allegedly crossing barricades and entering Jantar Mantar, which Delhi Police had removed from the list of designated protest venues a day earlier.

Police registered a case involving allegations of criminal trespass, disobedience of prohibitory orders, obstruction of public servants and violation of previously executed peace bonds.

Authorities said the protesters entered the restricted premises despite being informed about the revised arrangements for demonstrations.

Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka Sent to Tihar Jail

On October 14, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were produced before the Special Executive Magistrate Court at Mandir Marg in Delhi.

Both were remanded to five days of judicial custody in Tihar Jail. Ajinkya Shinde was granted bail.

CJP representatives disputed the police action, maintaining that the protesters had entered the premises to raise slogans and wave the national flag. The organisation also alleged restrictions on access to legal counsel during detention.

Anti-CEC Protests Continue Amid Voter List Row

The arrests follow several days of demonstrations organised by CJP against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

CJP and opposition groups have alleged irregularities in voter list revisions and demanded greater accountability from the Election Commission. The allegations of politically motivated voter deletions remain disputed.

Delhi Police have maintained that demonstrations must comply with applicable restrictions and designated protest arrangements.

The developments have intensified the confrontation between protest organisers and authorities over access to public demonstration venues in the national capital.
