India Slams Pakistan Over J&K Remarks At UN
India has strongly rejected Pakistan’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir at an informal United Nations Security Council meeting, calling them unwarranted and reiterating that the Union Territory remains strictly an internal matter of India.
India Rejects Pakistan Remarks On Jammu Kashmir
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, responded after Pakistan raised Jammu and Kashmir during an Arria-formula meeting of the UNSC.
Harish said Pakistan’s remarks were unwarranted and accused Islamabad of attempting to politicise a forum meant to discuss Security Council resolutions and international peace and security. He said Jammu and Kashmir has always been, is, and will remain a matter strictly internal to India.
UNSC Arria Formula Meeting Sees Diplomatic Exchange
The informal UNSC meeting was held under the Arria-formula format, which allows Security Council members and other participants to hold open discussions outside formal Council proceedings.
The meeting focused on the implementation of UNSC resolutions and the maintenance of international peace and security. India said the forum should not be used to introduce political issues unrelated to the stated agenda.
Harish also criticised the conduct of the co-chair, saying a forum expected to remain balanced and unbiased had been politicised through such references.
India Reaffirms Jammu Kashmir Position
India used the platform to restate its long-standing position that Jammu and Kashmir is not open to external intervention or internationalisation. New Delhi has consistently rejected Pakistan’s attempts to raise the issue at global forums.
India also highlighted the need to review outdated mediation frameworks and said such mechanisms should reflect present-day realities. The response underlined India’s view that international platforms should not be misused for political narratives against its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
