India Rejects Musk’s Starlink Blocking Claim
India has rejected Elon Musk’s claim that Starlink is being blocked by “certain oligarchs”, saying satellite communication providers are being processed under the same regulatory and security framework without discrimination.
India Rejects Musk’s Starlink Allegations
The Ministry of Communications said India follows a fair and non-discriminatory authorisation process for satellite communication services.
The government said three operators, including Starlink, have already received relevant telecom licences for non-geostationary satellite services and are currently undergoing similar regulatory and security procedures.
Officials rejected suggestions that Starlink was being singled out or deliberately delayed to protect established telecom companies.
Musk Claims Oligarchs Are Blocking Starlink
Musk had alleged that powerful business interests were preventing Starlink from launching commercially in India in order to preserve what he called a monopolistic hold over consumers.
He did not name any company or individual.
Starlink has completed much of its infrastructure build-out in India, including ground facilities, but still requires final approvals covering issues such as spectrum allocation, security and investment compliance before commercial services can begin.
Starlink Awaits Final India Clearances
The company has already secured key approvals, including a satellite communications licence and authorisation from India’s space regulator.
However, final security clearances remain important because satellite internet services raise concerns involving data routing, lawful interception and use in sensitive regions.
India has said all licensed operators are being treated equally as the government prepares to expand satellite broadband services across underserved and remote areas.
