India Raises Fuel Crisis Impact on Global South at UN

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, told the General Assembly that the Ukraine conflict has sharply increased fuel prices, hitting developing nations in the Global South the hardest. He said these countries have been left to manage the burden with little international support. Harish also stressed that the loss of innocent civilian lives is unacceptable and repeated that “no solution can be found on the battlefield.”

Call for Diplomacy Over Warfare

Harish underlined that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only sustainable paths to peace. He welcomed recent international engagement, including the Alaska summit between the U.S. and Russia, and affirmed India’s readiness to back initiatives aimed at ending the war.

Global South’s Concerns Must Be Heard

The envoy added that the voices of Global South nations should not be ignored in discussions on global security. He said these countries face disproportionate challenges due to the wider consequences of the conflict, including economic stress and resource shortages.
