Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Wednesday, congratulating her on assuming office and highlighting the importance of strengthening the India-Japan “Special Strategic & Global Partnership.” Modi said that closer ties between the two countries are essential for global peace, stability and prosperity.

Focus Areas Of Cooperation

Both leaders discussed cooperation in defence, economic security, talent mobility and the Indo-Pacific region. India invited greater Japanese investment in technology and manufacturing, while Japan reiterated its commitment to deepening defence and strategic ties with India.

Strategic Implications

The call comes at a time of rising geopolitical competition in the Indo-Pacific.
