India Beat New Zealand To Retain T20 World Cup

India retained the T20 World Cup title with a commanding 96-run win over New Zealand in the 2026 final, producing a dominant all-round performance in Ahmedabad. A powerful batting display set up the victory before India’s bowlers dismantled the New Zealand chase to seal another world title.

India Post Massive Total In T20 World Cup Final

India finished on 255/5 after being put in to bat, setting New Zealand a target of 256 in the final. The innings was built around a rapid half-century from Abhishek Sharma and a major knock from Sanju Samson, who top-scored with 89.

Ishan Kishan also made an important contribution with 54, helping India maintain the scoring rate through the middle overs. Even after a brief slowdown late in the innings, India had already pushed the match heavily in its favour with one of the highest totals seen in a T20 World Cup final.

New Zealand Chase Falls Apart Under Pressure

New Zealand began the chase needing a strong start but lost wickets at regular intervals despite an aggressive 52 from Tim Seifert. Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah struck key blows early, reducing the pressure release options available to the batting side.

Rachin Ravindra, Finn Allen and Glenn Phillips were all dismissed before New Zealand could build a stable platform. Mitchell Santner fought back with 43, but by then the required rate had climbed sharply and the chase was slipping away.

Jasprit Bumrah Leads India Bowling Charge

India’s bowlers controlled the second half of the match to seal the title in emphatic fashion. Bumrah was the standout performer, taking crucial wickets and breaking New Zealand’s late resistance, while Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy also made important contributions.

New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 159, handing India a 96-run victory. The result gave India their third T20 World Cup title and confirmed a successful title defence with a complete performance in the final.
