Gadkari Calls for Non-Bailable Offense for Faulty Road Construction

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has strongly advocated for stricter legal action against contractors and engineers responsible for substandard road construction. He emphasized that faulty road construction should be classified as a non-bailable offense to ensure accountability and improve road safety across the country.

Speaking at an event, Gadkari highlighted that poor construction quality is a significant contributor to road accidents and fatalities in India. He expressed concerns about the negligence shown by certain contractors and engineers, which compromises the safety of millions of commuters.

The minister also stressed the need for a robust monitoring mechanism to ensure that road projects adhere to the highest quality standards. Gadkari proposed introducing stringent penalties and legal consequences for those found guilty of lapses in road construction.

This push for legal reforms is part of the government’s broader strategy to improve road infrastructure and reduce the alarming rate of road accidents in India. Gadkari reiterated that ensuring the durability and safety of roads is not just a developmental priority but also a moral responsibility.

Industry experts have welcomed the minister’s remarks, noting that stricter regulations could lead to a significant reduction in construction-related irregularities and improve overall road quality.
