FIR Against Rahul, Priyanka Over Akashvani Entry
Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several others, over their alleged unauthorised entry into Akashvani Bhawan during an opposition protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Rahul, Priyanka Booked Over Akashvani Bhawan Entry
The FIR was registered at Parliament Street Police Station following a complaint from Akashvani Bhawan employees.
Police have accused the Congress leaders and others of entering the government premises without permission during the October 6 protest. The case includes allegations related to trespass and obstruction, while the investigation remains underway.
The allegations have not yet been adjudicated by a court.
INDIA Bloc Protest Shifted to Akashvani Bhawan
The confrontation began when INDIA bloc MPs attempted to march from Parliament towards the Election Commission headquarters over the Special Intensive Revision controversy and demands for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
Police barricades stopped the march near Akashvani Bhawan. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi then entered the premises, where several opposition leaders later staged an extended sit-in.
Police eventually detained the protesters in the evening before releasing them later.
Congress Escalates SIR Protest Against CEC
The protest formed part of a wider opposition campaign alleging irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Opposition leaders have demanded greater transparency from the Election Commission and called for the Chief Election Commissioner to step down.
The Election Commission has rejected allegations that its final decisions were taken improperly and has maintained that institutional procedures were followed.
The FIR adds a fresh legal dimension to the increasingly contentious political battle over the SIR exercise.
