Farooq Abdullah Reaffirms Kashmir’s Indian Identity Amidst Pahalgam Tragedy
In the wake of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead, including tourists and a local guide, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah visited the site to offer solidarity and instill a message of resilience. During his visit, he interacted with tourists and local residents, offering condolences and reassurance in a time of grief and fear.
Abdullah strongly condemned the attack and emphasized that such attempts to create panic and disrupt communal harmony would not succeed. Addressing the media, he stated, “The people who wanted to spread fear have lost. They have lost. It has been proven today that we are not going to get scared. Kashmir was and will always be a part of India.”
He called the attack an act of “inhuman brutality” and asserted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir seek peace, not perpetual violence. He underlined the importance of unity among communities to stand firm against the forces of terror. Abdullah also met the family of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, the local pony ride operator who was killed in the attack while trying to help tourists, expressing heartfelt condolences and support.
Reaffirming his stand on national integrity, Abdullah highlighted that the people of the valley desire progress, not bloodshed. “People want terrorism to finish. It has been 35 years since we have seen terrorism; we want progress. We want to move forward. We will become a superpower one day,” he said, projecting hope amidst sorrow.
His statements come as the region remains tense, with India taking several measures in response to the attack, including suspending key treaties, expelling diplomats, and implementing trade and travel restrictions with Pakistan.
Through his presence and strong words, Farooq Abdullah aimed to restore public confidence and make it clear that no amount of extremist violence could alter the foundational truth that Kashmir remains and will always remain an inseparable part of India.
