Farooq Abdullah Questions J&K Border Security

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has demanded an investigation into recent terrorist killings in south Kashmir, questioning how attackers entered Jammu and Kashmir despite tight border security.

Farooq Abdullah Questions Border Security

Speaking in Bijbehara, Abdullah asked authorities to identify those responsible for killing a police officer and two migrant labourers in separate attacks. He questioned official claims that terrorism had been contained and sought an explanation for the continuing violence.

Abdullah said the government should clarify where the terrorists came from if the borders were sealed. He also questioned whether terrorism had ended following the constitutional and administrative changes made in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.

South Kashmir Terror Attacks Investigated

Two labourers from Chhattisgarh, identified as Deepak Ratray, 24, and Bhopinder, 30, were killed by terrorists in south Kashmir. A police officer was killed in a separate incident during the same 10-day period.

Abdullah called for a thorough and impartial investigation to identify the perpetrators. He had earlier questioned why such incidents occurred when political parties were pressing for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

The attacks marked the first targeting of migrant labourers in the Kashmir Valley in nearly two years. In October 2024, a labourer from Bihar was killed by terrorists in Shopian district.

Security Lapse Claims Raise Questions

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti also described the labourers’ killing as a security lapse. She sought an investigation into how the attack occurred despite extensive security arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra.

These were the first terrorist attacks on civilians in the Valley since the April 2025 Pahalgam attack, which killed 25 tourists and a local pony handler. That attack was followed by Indian strikes against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir under Operation Sindoor.
