Everyone Equal Before Law, Congress Tells KTR
In a strong rebuttal to criticism from BRS working president KT Rama Rao, the Congress party has reaffirmed that all citizens are equal before the law, irrespective of their political stature. The statement came after KTR expressed his displeasure over the summons issued to his father, former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, by the PC Ghose Commission investigating the Kaleshwaram project.
Equal Justice Applies to All
Congress leaders dismissed KTR’s remarks as an attempt to politicize a legitimate legal process. They stated unequivocally that investigations into alleged financial irregularities must not be influenced by an individual’s public standing. According to the party, defending due process is not political vendetta, but a reaffirmation of constitutional principles. “Everyone is equal before the law, irrespective of stature,” Congress emphasized in response to KTR’s objections.
The summons to KCR, issued by the commission led by former Chief Justice of India PC Ghose, has triggered political friction between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS in Telangana. The Commission is tasked with probing the finances and procedural handling of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, one of the most expensive state-run irrigation schemes in India.
BRS Calls Congress Action Politically Motivated
KTR had earlier alleged that the Congress government was attempting to defame the previous administration by misusing commissions and inquiry panels. He criticised the manner in which the notice was served and questioned the timing, arguing that it aimed to derail BRS’s public outreach initiatives.
He also claimed the current government was avoiding pressing development issues such as the Sunkishala pipeline and SLBC tunnel collapse while targeting political opponents. The BRS has responded with plans for statewide protests, vowing to expose what they describe as the Congress party’s “legacy of failure and corruption.”
High-Stakes Battle Ahead of Telangana Polls
As the political atmosphere heats up in Telangana, the Congress is holding its ground by projecting the Kaleshwaram probe as a matter of public accountability. The PC Ghose Commission’s findings are expected to influence public perception in the lead-up to future state elections.
Meanwhile, KCR’s response to the summons and potential cross-examination could become a pivotal moment in the state’s political narrative. Congress appears confident that its stand on legal equality will resonate with voters, while BRS continues to portray the investigation as a political witch-hunt.
