England Replace India as No. 1 T20I Team

England have replaced India as the No. 1 team in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings after completing a dominant 4-0 series victory over the reigning world champions. The result ended India’s stay at the top of the rankings after more than 1,600 days.

England Claim No. 1 T20I Ranking

Harry Brook’s England moved to the top of the T20I rankings after winning four consecutive matches against India on home soil.

The opening match of the five-game series was abandoned because of rain in Chester-le-Street. England then controlled the remaining four matches to complete an emphatic series victory.

Before the final match, Brook had identified the No. 1 ranking as a major target for his team. England achieved that objective by producing another commanding performance in Southampton.

Buttler and Brook Dominate India

Jos Buttler and Brook dismantled India’s bowling attack during the fifth T20I, sharing a 233-run partnership for the second wicket.

Buttler scored a century, while Brook remained unbeaten on 95. The England captain also registered the fastest T20I half-century of his international career during the innings.

England’s series included India’s biggest defeat in T20I cricket during the match in Nottingham. The hosts also chased a target of 159 in only 13.4 overs in Bristol.

India Drop to Second in Rankings

India slipped to second place following the 4-0 series defeat. The team had previously lost a two-match T20I series against Ireland and remained without a victory during its United Kingdom tour.

India had occupied the No. 1 position since February 2022. The latest rankings update brings that extended run to an end as England begin a new period at the top of men’s T20I cricket.
