DK Shivakumar Likely To Take Oath On June 3

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is likely to take oath as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka on June 3, according to reports, after Siddaramaiah stepped down from the post. The Congress Legislature Party is expected to formally elect Shivakumar as its new leader before the transition is completed.

DK Shivakumar Karnataka CM Oath

Shivakumar is expected to take over as Karnataka Chief Minister after weeks of internal discussions within the Congress over the state’s leadership arrangement. Siddaramaiah has reportedly resigned and is expected to continue as caretaker Chief Minister until the formal swearing-in process is completed.

The change marks a major political development in Karnataka, where the Congress had returned to power in 2023 with Siddaramaiah as Chief Minister and Shivakumar as Deputy Chief Minister.

Karnataka Congress Leadership Change

The Congress Legislature Party meeting is expected to play a key role in completing the leadership transition. Shivakumar, who is also the Karnataka Congress president, has long been seen as a central figure in the party’s state organisation.

Reports suggest that the party leadership is also holding discussions on cabinet restructuring, Deputy Chief Minister posts and representation for different regions and communities.

Yathindra Siddaramaiah Deputy CM Talks

Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra Siddaramaiah has reportedly come up in discussions linked to a possible Deputy Chief Minister role, although no official confirmation has been issued. The Congress high command is expected to balance caste, regional and political factors while finalising the new team.

The final cabinet structure may be announced around the oath-taking or shortly after Shivakumar formally assumes charge.
