Devon Conway Out of India ODIs, Kelly Called Up

New Zealand batter Devon Conway has been ruled out of the remaining ODI matches against India after suffering a concussion during a training session in Auckland. The injury has forced New Zealand to call up left-handed batter Nick Kelly ahead of the second ODI in Wellington on Saturday, November 7.

Devon Conway Suffers Concussion During Training

Conway sustained the injury on November 3 when he collided with teammate Matt Henry while attempting a catch during a fielding practice session at Eden Park in Auckland.

Both players received immediate medical attention and underwent head injury assessments. Conway was subsequently taken to a hospital emergency department for further examination, where doctors confirmed a concussion.

The injury initially ruled him out of Wednesday’s opening ODI before New Zealand Cricket confirmed on Friday that he would miss the remainder of the five-match series.

Nick Kelly Replaces Conway in New Zealand ODI Squad

Nick Kelly, originally selected for the fourth and fifth ODIs, has been called into the squad earlier than scheduled. He will join the New Zealand team in Wellington on Friday and become available for Saturday’s second ODI.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Matt Henry, who was involved in the training collision, has been cleared of concussion and is available for selection.

Auckland Aces batter Dale Phillips will replace Kelly in the New Zealand A squad for the final four-day match against India A, beginning Saturday.

India Lead Five-Match ODI Series 1-0

India currently lead the five-match ODI series 1-0 after securing a five-wicket victory in the rain-affected opening encounter in Auckland on November 4.

The second ODI is scheduled for November 7 in Wellington, where New Zealand will attempt to level the series despite Conway’s absence.

Conway’s availability for the upcoming Test series remains uncertain. The first Test against India is scheduled to begin in Wellington on November 19.
