Devendra Fadnavis Takes Dig at Uddhav and Raj Thackeray

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shared a stage with political rivals Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray in Mumbai on Thursday, October 29, 2026, exchanging humorous remarks about their careers and political differences. The three leaders attended the launch of Hasya Rekha, a collection documenting a century of Marathi cartooning, at the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak auditorium in Dadar.

Fadnavis referred to Uddhav’s interest in photography and Raj’s cartooning abilities, suggesting that both should pursue their artistic talents while he managed Maharashtra’s politics.

Uddhav responded by recalling Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, whose political cartoons demonstrated how artistic expression could influence public affairs.

Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar also attended the event and remarked on the leaders coming together despite their differences.

Raj Thackeray responded that such gatherings could continue if Fadnavis remained Chief Minister until 2029.

Fadnavis also recalled his earlier relationship with Uddhav, saying he had regularly responded to his invitations until 2019, when the BJP and undivided Shiv Sena parted ways.

The Chief Minister said political opponents in Maharashtra had traditionally participated together in cultural and non-political programmes.

Maharashtra Government Plans Gallery for Cartoonists

Fadnavis announced plans to establish a dedicated gallery in Mumbai to preserve and showcase the contributions of Marathi cartoonists.

The proposed gallery would celebrate the state’s cartooning tradition and provide space for displaying historical and contemporary artwork.

The gathering highlighted the continuing connection between Maharashtra’s political culture and its tradition of political satire.
