Delhi Police has identified and blocked 480 Pakistan-based social media accounts accused of participating in coordinated misinformation campaigns targeting students and young people in India.

Police said the 480 social media handles were spreading rumours and false claims about ongoing student demonstrations in the national capital. Authorities alleged that the accounts were being operated from Pakistan as part of an organised attempt to mislead young users and intensify tensions.
The accounts were identified through online monitoring conducted amid protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and demands for action against those responsible for paper leaks.
Misinformation Targeted Student Protests
According to police, several of the identified accounts circulated misleading videos, unverified allegations and inflammatory posts connected with the demonstrations. Some accounts were reportedly previously observed spreading propaganda during Operation Sindoor before becoming active again during the student protests.
Authorities did not release a complete list of the blocked handles or disclose the individual social media platforms involved. No detailed evidence establishing the location or operators of each account was made public with the initial announcement.
Public Urged to Verify Online Claims
Delhi Police advised social media users to verify photographs, videos and claims through credible channels before sharing them. The warning came as several unverified posts concerning the demonstrations circulated widely across online platforms.
Government agencies have also rejected videos presented with misleading descriptions, including claims related to deaths and police action during the protests. Officials said monitoring would continue to identify accounts spreading fabricated content that could disturb public order.
Users have been encouraged to avoid forwarding sensational posts without confirmation and to report suspicious content through the relevant platform or cybercrime reporting channels.
