Cyclone Murasu: 11 Chennai Flights Cancelled

Eleven flights operating to and from Chennai International Airport were cancelled on Monday, November 2, 2026, as severe weather conditions associated with Cyclone Murasu disrupted aviation operations. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed that services connecting Chennai with Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kadapa and Tiruchirappalli were affected as the cyclone moved towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.

Chennai Airport Cancels 11 IndiGo Flights

The cancellations affected 11 IndiGo services scheduled between 12.30 pm and 10.10 pm on Monday.

Three flights connecting Chennai and Vijayawada were cancelled, along with two services each on the Chennai-Rajahmundry and Chennai-Kadapa routes.

Four flights between Chennai and Tiruchirappalli were also cancelled.

Airport authorities advised passengers to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information, alternative travel arrangements and assistance.

Cyclone Murasu Approaches Andhra Pradesh Coast

The disruption follows the intensification of Cyclone Murasu over the Bay of Bengal, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) monitoring its movement towards coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The severe cyclonic storm is forecast to cross the coast between Nellore and Narsapur, close to Ongole, between late November 2 and early November 3.

The IMD has warned of sustained winds reaching 100 to 110 kilometres per hour, with gusts potentially touching 120 kilometres per hour near the landfall area.

Passengers Advised to Check Flight Status

The developing cyclone has raised concerns about heavy rainfall, strong winds and reduced visibility across parts of coastal Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Airlines and airport authorities are monitoring weather developments and reviewing operational conditions to maintain passenger safety.

Travellers scheduled to depart from Chennai have been advised to verify their flight status before leaving for the airport.

Further disruptions remain possible depending on the cyclone’s movement and prevailing weather conditions.
