Cyclone Alert: Odisha Coast May Face Cyclone Next Week, IMD Issues Warning

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone alert, warning of potential cyclonic activity in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea next week.

According to the IMD, conditions are favorable for the development of a cyclone in the North Andaman Sea around October 20, with a possibility of intensification as it nears the Odisha coast around October 23-24.

Cyclone Formation Expected Near Andaman Sea

The IMD predicts that the North Andaman Sea is likely to witness the formation of a cyclone on October 20, which could strengthen as it moves towards the Odisha coast. While cyclonic activity is also expected in the Arabian Sea, experts believe that the likelihood of a full-fledged cyclone developing there remains minimal.

IMD Issues Advisory for Fishing and Tourism

In preparation for the possible cyclone, the IMD has issued advisories for the eastern coast, urging fishermen, shipping vessels, and naval operations to avoid venturing into the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea due to anticipated rough seas. The weather department has also recommended caution in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, particularly for tourist activities, as the region could experience adverse weather conditions.

Preparedness Measures Recommended

Authorities have advised local communities in Odisha and surrounding coastal areas to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures. With the potential for severe weather next week, the IMD emphasizes the need for preparedness and monitoring of weather updates to mitigate risks.

As the cyclone alert looms, the IMD continues to monitor the situation closely, ensuring timely updates for those in affected regions.
