Congress Yet To Name Kerala Chief Minister
The Congress leadership has not yet announced the next Chief Minister of Kerala, keeping political suspense alive after the United Democratic Front secured a strong mandate in the Assembly election.
Kerala Chief Minister Decision Awaited
KPCC president Sunny Joseph said the final decision on Kerala’s next Chief Minister will be announced by the Congress high command. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi are leading the consultations in New Delhi.
The party has held discussions with senior leaders and key contenders for the post, but no official announcement has been made so far.
UDF Victory Puts Focus On Leadership Choice
The delay comes after the Congress-led UDF won a major victory in the 140-member Kerala Assembly. The alliance secured 102 seats, giving it a clear majority and ending the Left Democratic Front’s decade-long rule in the state.
The Congress emerged as the largest party within the alliance, while the Indian Union Muslim League and other UDF partners also won significant seats. Their views are expected to matter in the final leadership decision.
Satheesan And Venugopal In CM Race
Senior Congress leaders V D Satheesan, K C Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala are being discussed as possible choices for the Chief Minister’s post. Satheesan is being projected by many supporters because of his role as Leader of Opposition, while Venugopal has strong influence within the party organisation.
The leadership has also urged workers to avoid public lobbying, posters and social media campaigns in favour of individual leaders, saying such actions create an impression of internal division.
Congress High Command To Announce Name
Congress leaders have said the final decision will be accepted by all sides once announced. The party is trying to balance public support, legislative backing, alliance equations and internal unity before naming Kerala’s next Chief Minister.
