Congress Says Opposition Unity Stalled Govt Bills
The Congress has claimed that Opposition unity during Parliament’s Monsoon Session left the Modi government “rattled” and forced it to defer several major legislative proposals. The party described the session as a political success for the Opposition despite repeated disruptions in both Houses.

Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Gaurav Gogoi said coordinated Opposition action had prevented the government from advancing five contentious proposals during the session.
The party cited the proposed delimitation legislation, the One Nation One Election measure, the 130th Constitutional Amendment concerning removal of jailed Chief Ministers and ministers, FCRA amendments and the Viksit Bharat Shikshan Adhishthan Bill.
These were claims made by the Congress regarding the impact of Opposition pressure rather than an official government explanation for the delays.
Congress Targets BJP Over Delimitation
Ramesh argued that the government had suffered a setback on delimitation, particularly after political developments in Tamil Nadu strengthened opposition to any redistribution of parliamentary seats perceived as disadvantaging southern States.
Congress also claimed the BJP would struggle to secure the parliamentary numbers required for major constitutional changes linked to delimitation.
Monsoon Session Ends Amid Political Standoff
The Monsoon Session concluded after repeated disruptions over student protests, education-related controversies and demands for government accountability.
Opposition parties portrayed the confrontation as evidence of successful coordination, while the government maintained that Parliament had still completed important legislative business.
The political confrontation between the government and Opposition is expected to continue when Parliament reconvenes.
