Centre Announces 3-Year Anti-Drug Campaign from March 31

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that the government will launch a three-year nationwide campaign against drug abuse starting on March 31, 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen India’s efforts to curb narcotics, protect youth, and move toward a drug-free nation.

Shah made the announcement while chairing the 9th Apex-Level Meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) in New Delhi. He directed all central and state departments to prepare time-bound roadmaps by March 31 and set up mechanisms to review progress through 2029. The plan will outline roles, targets, and regular reviews to ensure effective implementation.

Campaign Focus and Strategy

The Home Minister described drug trafficking and abuse as a serious challenge linked to narco-terrorism and warned that it threatens future generations. He said the campaign will adopt a collective approach across government agencies to dismantle supply chains, reduce demand, and help victims.

Shah also highlighted successful seizures of narcotics in recent years and stressed the need for coordinated action. He emphasised that there should be no leniency toward manufacturers and dealers, while victims should receive support.

State and Local Action

Officials were urged to accelerate destruction of seized drugs and strengthen local enforcement. The campaign will involve central ministries, state governments, and law enforcement agencies working together to confront the drug menace.
