CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Chhattisgarh Visit Postponed
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s scheduled two-day visit to Chhattisgarh has been postponed, with election authorities citing “unavoidable reasons” and saying revised dates will be announced later.
Gyanesh Kumar’s Chhattisgarh Visit Postponed
Kumar and senior Election Commission officials were scheduled to visit Chhattisgarh on October 7 and 8.
The state Chief Electoral Officer’s office confirmed that the programme had been deferred but did not provide a detailed reason for the postponement. No fresh dates have yet been finalised.
The Chhattisgarh government had accorded Kumar state guest status, while administrative, police and airport authorities had already begun preparations for the visit.
Dantewada, Bastar Visits Were on Schedule
Kumar’s itinerary included visits to the Danteshwari Mata Temple in Dantewada, Chitrakote Waterfall in Bastar and the Bhoramdeo Temple in Kabirdham district.
The trip was expected to include engagements with election officials as part of the Commission’s wider administrative programme.
Authorities said the revised itinerary would be communicated once the Election Commission finalises new dates.
Postponement Comes Amid SIR Controversy
The postponement comes as Kumar faces heightened political scrutiny over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Opposition parties have staged protests demanding his resignation, while legal challenges concerning Election Commission decisions are also pending before the Supreme Court.
The Commission has maintained that its decisions were taken through established institutional procedures.
Kumar’s Chhattisgarh visit follows several other scheduled tours that were previously postponed, including planned visits to Uttar Pradesh, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
