Cabinet Approves MSP Hike for Rabi Crops for 2025-26 Season
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all mandated Rabi crops for the marketing season 2025-26. This decision aims to ensure remunerative prices for farmers, encouraging better returns on their produce.
MSP Increase for Rabi Crops in 2025-26
The government has announced that the highest MSP increase is for Rapeseed and Mustard, which sees a Rs. 300 per quintal rise, followed by Lentil (Masur) with an increase of Rs. 275 per quintal. Other Rabi crops, such as Gram, Wheat, Safflower, and Barley, also see significant MSP hikes, with increases of Rs. 210, Rs. 150, Rs. 140, and Rs. 130 per quintal, respectively.
Key MSP Changes for Farmers
The increase in MSP aligns with the government’s commitment to offering farmers a minimum of 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production, a policy announced in the Union Budget 2018-19. The new MSP levels guarantee a 105% margin over production costs for wheat, 98% for rapeseed and mustard, 89% for lentil, and 60% for gram and barley. This hike will benefit farmers across the country, ensuring fair returns and encouraging crop diversification.
The updated MSP will support the government’s broader goal of improving agricultural incomes and sustaining farming profitability.
