BJP Wins Six of Seven Rajasthan Mayoral Polls
The Bharatiya Janata Party has won six of the seven Rajasthan municipal corporation mayoral contests decided on September 21, while the Congress retained only Bikaner. The results followed urban local body elections in which the BJP had emerged as the largest party statewide.
BJP Wins Six Rajasthan Mayoral Contests
The BJP won mayoral posts in Alwar, Udaipur, Pali and Ajmer through voting, while its candidates were elected unopposed in Bharatpur and Bhilwara. Congress candidate Anil Kalla won in Bikaner, defeating the BJP nominee 50-30.
In Ajmer, BJP candidate Anamika Sharma secured 43 votes against the Congress’s 37, despite the Congress having won more councillor seats in the earlier election. The BJP received support from 11 Independents.
Pali Result Delivers Major Setback to Congress
The most dramatic result came from Pali, where Congress had won 29 wards compared with the BJP’s 21. BJP candidate Namita Bubukia nevertheless won the mayoral contest with 33 votes.
Congress rebel Rajbala Hingad received 29 votes, while the party’s official candidate secured just three, indicating substantial cross-voting within the corporation.
Congress Alleges Misuse of Police and Administration
Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra accused the BJP government of using police and administrative pressure against Congress councillors and Independents. The BJP has rejected opposition allegations and highlighted its victories across the state.
Elections for the mayoral posts in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota are scheduled for September 25 after their electoral process was delayed.
