BJP Files Privilege Notice Against Rahul Gandhi
The Bharatiya Janata Party has submitted a breach of privilege notice against Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of using derogatory and unparliamentary language during a debate on the anti-paper leak legislation.

BJP MP Anurag Thakur submitted the notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla under Rules 222 and 223, seeking its admission and referral to the Committee of Privileges.
The complaint accuses Gandhi of breaching parliamentary privilege, showing disregard for the Speaker’s authority and lowering the dignity of the House. BJP chief whip Sanjay Jaiswal also filed a separate complaint seeking action over Gandhi’s conduct.
The notices remain allegations submitted for parliamentary consideration. The Speaker will decide whether the matter should be admitted or referred for further examination.
Rahul Gandhi Remarks Spark Lok Sabha Row
The dispute arose during Gandhi’s speech in the Lok Sabha while Parliament debated legislation introducing stronger punishments for examination paper leaks.
Gandhi allegedly used the expressions “idiots” and “andhbhakts” while addressing the House. BJP members argued that the remarks insulted a section of Indian citizens and violated parliamentary rules prohibiting offensive or defamatory language.
He also blamed Union Home Minister Amit Shah for alleged police excesses against protesters on July 20. Treasury bench members strongly objected, while the Chair repeatedly asked Gandhi to follow parliamentary rules. Some disputed portions of his speech were subsequently removed from the official record.
BJP Seeks Apology to House and Amit Shah
Thakur alleged that Gandhi continued using objectionable expressions despite warnings from the Chair and objections raised by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
The BJP has requested a detailed inquiry by the Privileges Committee and an unconditional apology from Gandhi to the Lok Sabha and Amit Shah.
The development has intensified the confrontation between the ruling alliance and the Opposition over the paper leak controversy and recent police action against protesters.
