Bihar Mid-Day Meal Sickens 150 Children

More than 150 children fell ill after eating food served under the mid-day meal scheme at a government school in Bihar’s Saharsa district. The incident was reported at Middle School Balwaha in Mahishi block, where students complained of stomach pain, vomiting and dizziness shortly after eating the meal.

Bihar Mid-Day Meal Case Reported In Saharsa

The children were taken to hospital after police and health department teams reached the school. Officials said around 115 children were referred to Sadar Hospital, while another 40 to 50 students were admitted to a community health centre.

Children Stable After Food Poisoning Scare

Saharsa District Magistrate Deepesh Kumar said doctors had informed the administration that all the children were stable. Some students had mild fever and were kept under observation, but officials said there was no need to panic.

Object Found In Student’s Plate

School authorities said the meal was supplied by a non-government organisation. Acting Principal Anupama Kumari said around 100 to 125 junior class students had already been served when an object was noticed in one child’s plate. Some people described it as an insect, while villagers claimed it looked like a snake.

Inquiry Ordered Into Mid-Day Meal Incident

Food distribution was stopped immediately after the object was found. Children who had already received the meal were told not to continue eating. Authorities have started an inquiry, and food samples have been collected for examination.
