England defeated India by 27 runs in the third ODI at Lord’s after Ben Duckett’s record century powered the hosts to 387 for three, securing a 2-1 series victory.
Ben Duckett Breaks Lord’s ODI Record
Duckett struck 141 from 135 deliveries, surpassing Viv Richards’ long-standing record for the highest individual ODI score at Lord’s. The England opener shared a commanding 192-run partnership with Jacob Bethell, who narrowly missed a century with 91.
Joe Root maintained England’s momentum with an unbeaten 74, while Jos Buttler produced an explosive finish. The former captain smashed 41 not out from only 13 balls as England accumulated 82 runs from the final five overs.
England’s 387 for three became the highest ODI total recorded at Lord’s, leaving India requiring what would have been the second-highest successful chase in the format’s history.
Rohit Sharma Leads India’s Run Chase
Rohit Sharma responded with an outstanding 138 from 110 balls, striking 17 fours and five sixes. He added 147 for the opening wicket with captain Shubman Gill, who scored 77.
Virat Kohli contributed 74 and shared a 113-run partnership with Rohit, keeping India within reach of the target. However, Bethell dismissed Rohit in the 39th over to halt India’s momentum at a critical stage.
England Win ODI Series 2-1
Sam Curran led England’s bowling response with four wickets for 75 runs. His late breakthroughs prevented India from mounting a final assault despite the visitors retaining wickets.
India completed their 50 overs on 360 for seven, finishing 27 runs short of England’s imposing total.
The victory handed England their first bilateral ODI series triumph over India since 2018. Duckett’s century, England’s powerful finish and disciplined late bowling ultimately proved decisive in the high-scoring series finale.
