Bangladesh Raises Objection Over Hasina’s Delhi Address
Bangladesh has expressed concern after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was allowed to deliver a political address at an event in New Delhi. The interim government in Dhaka said permitting the address amounted to interference in Bangladesh’s internal political process and could have implications for bilateral relations with India.
Statement From Bangladesh Authorities
Officials said Bangladesh was “surprised” by the decision to allow Hasina to speak publicly from Indian soil, especially on domestic political developments in Bangladesh. Dhaka conveyed that while Hasina is currently residing in India, political speeches targeting Bangladesh’s internal affairs were not appropriate during a sensitive transition period.
Political Context
Sheikh Hasina has been staying in India since stepping down from office following political unrest in Bangladesh last year. Her Delhi address reportedly included criticism of the interim administration and comments on the country’s political future. The Bangladesh government said such statements risk escalating tensions and undermining efforts to ensure stability and democratic order.
Dhaka has urged restraint and emphasised that bilateral relations with India should be guided by mutual respect and non-interference. Indian authorities have not issued a detailed response to the concerns raised.
