Attacks on Indians Abroad Rise Sharply
Attacks on Indian nationals overseas rose sharply between 2021 and 2025, with 302 incidents recorded across 36 countries and regions. The United States reported the highest number during the five-year period, followed by the UAE, the United Kingdom and Canada.

Official figures show a significant year-on-year increase in attacks involving Indian nationals overseas. The number of reported incidents rose from 15 in 2021 to 31 in 2022 before more than doubling to 67 in 2023.
The upward trend continued with 85 cases reported in 2024 and 104 in 2025. The 2025 figure was nearly seven times the number recorded in 2021, indicating a substantial increase over the five-year period.
US Records Most Attacks on Indians
The United States recorded 33 attacks on Indian nationals between 2021 and 2025, the highest among the countries covered by the data.
The UAE followed with 32 incidents, while the United Kingdom recorded 31 and Canada reported 30. Ireland registered 24 cases, followed by Russia with 23 and Germany with 19.
In 2025 alone, the United States recorded 14 incidents. Mali reported 11 attacks, Ireland recorded 10, while Canada registered eight during the year.
Indian Missions Monitoring Overseas Incidents
The government said Indian embassies and consulates closely monitor incidents involving Indian citizens and raise such cases with the concerned authorities in host countries.
Diplomatic missions seek proper investigation and appropriate action against those responsible under local laws. Indian nationals facing emergencies overseas can also approach missions and consulates for assistance through established consular and welfare mechanisms.
