Ashwin Picks KKR as Hardik Pandya’s IPL 2027 Fit
Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has suggested that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) could be an ideal destination for Hardik Pandya if the all-rounder leaves Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2027. Speaking on his YouTube channel on October 29, 2026, Ashwin identified five franchises as potential contenders for Pandya and discussed possible player exchanges, while indicating that captaincy might no longer be his primary consideration.
Ashwin Names Five IPL Teams Interested in Hardik Pandya
Ashwin identified Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings as possible destinations for Pandya.
Although speculation has suggested interest from six franchises, Ashwin dismissed Lucknow Super Giants as a likely contender.
He highlighted KKR as a suitable option because the franchise could potentially offer Pandya a leadership role.
However, no official trade agreement has been announced, and the reported interest remains speculative.
KKR Could Offer Hardik Pandya Captaincy in IPL 2027
Ashwin suggested that KKR could consider exchanging players such as Harshit Rana or Rinku Singh to acquire Pandya.
He also mentioned Varun Chakaravarthy as a possible trade option but considered his departure less likely.
For Rajasthan Royals, Ashwin discussed potential exchanges involving Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sam Curran and other players.
He further suggested that Gujarat Titans could explore a deal involving Rashid Khan, although no negotiations have been confirmed.
Mumbai Indians Face Hardik Pandya Trade Decision
Ashwin argued that Mumbai Indians needed to strengthen their bowling attack and recruit an Indian wicketkeeper.
He identified Punjab Kings all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai as another possible trade consideration.
Pandya previously captained Gujarat Titans to the IPL title in 2022 before returning to Mumbai Indians.
Ashwin believes Pandya may prioritise finding the right franchise over securing captaincy, with his future expected to attract attention ahead of IPL 2027.
