Annamalai Seeks Cordial Exit From BJP
Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai has reportedly conveyed to BJP president Nitin Nabin that he wants a “cordial separation” from the party, amid growing speculation over his political future. The development comes after the BJP’s poor performance in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where the party won only one seat.
Annamalai BJP Exit Speculation Grows
Annamalai met BJP president Nitin Nabin in Delhi as reports suggested that he may leave the party and launch a new political platform in Tamil Nadu. According to the report, Annamalai told the BJP leadership that he did not see a future for himself within the party’s current state strategy.
The former IPS officer is said to be unhappy with the BJP’s alliance approach in Tamil Nadu, especially its ties with the AIADMK. His supporters have also put up posters in Coimbatore ahead of his birthday, urging him to lead a new political movement.
Tamil Nadu BJP Faces Internal Pressure
The BJP’s weak result in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly has intensified questions over its state leadership and political direction. Annamalai had earlier played a prominent role in building the party’s public visibility in Tamil Nadu, but did not contest the recent Assembly election.
Reports also claimed that he was offered a Rajya Sabha seat, but refused the offer. This has added to speculation that he may be preparing for an independent political move.
New Political Party In Tamil Nadu
Annamalai is reportedly considering launching a movement first, followed by a political party later. The proposed platform may be positioned as a regional political force with a national outlook.
For now, Annamalai has not made a formal public announcement. He has asked reporters to wait for a couple of days, indicating that his next political move may become clearer soon.
